La preocupacion central es que tipos de mecanismos existen para determinar como, cuando y con que propositos las variables de poblacion pueden ser introducidas en el ambito de la planificacion economica y social. Dada las caracteristicas del plan de desarrollo macroeconomico, las aplicaciones de los insumos demograficos revisten especial relevancia a nivel sectorial; su uso es mayor en el mediano plazo y en areas como la salud.
