The project was conceived and coordinated by the Latin American and Caribbean Demographic Centre (CELADE) - Population Division of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and has been jointly implemented since 2009 with the other four United Nations regional commissions, namely the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), and with technical collaboration from the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA)1. The report builds on meetings and studies carried out as part of the project's regional and interregional activities, which have focused on emerging trends and institutional approaches related to international migration in (and between) the five regions.
