Sumario:The objective of the present work is to determine the relationships that might be established between burnout syndrome and dysfunctional attitudes in the Secondary School counsellors. The sample is formed by 69.14% of the subjects, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (Maslach & Jackson, 1981) and the Weissman dysfunctional attitude scale (Weissman, 1979) were used. The results indicated that 36.9% of the sample present preoccupying levels of burnout, and that to increasing levels of burnout there corresponded increasing dysfunctional attitudes, the two being significantly associated. Furthermore, those most affected by the syndrome showed a strong need for the approval of the others, and consider their self-esteem to depend on how others regard them. Only motivational variables were significant in predicting burnout, and the achievement variable has a good capacity for prediction of the syndrome.
