Sumario: | 1. THE ROAD TRAVELLED. AN IMPERFECT REPRESENTATION. Evolution of Castilian parliament during the Modern Age until 1655, its political and constitutional insertion in the Absolute Monarchy, description of functions and structures, study of representation among the deputies and cities. Analysis of the purchase of vote in Cortes by Extremadura.
2. THE KINGDOM IN CORTES, 1655-1665. We analyze the meetings of 1655-1658 and 1660-1664 among the Minutes of Cortes and the documents of the Junta de Asistentes looking at the relationship between the two parts (King and Kingdom) and studying in depth the work of the members of parliament. We reflect on the facts which contributed to the end of Cortes, which were cancelled in 1665.
3. THE KINGDOM WITHOUT CORTES. THE FIGHT FOR THE REPRESENTATION, 1665-1700. We describe the trajectory and the interrelations between the agents who claim the joining of the issues of the Cortes: the King, the Consejos, the cities, the Diputación and the Comisión de Millones. Analysis of the prorogations of the services of millions and the effects of the decrees of 1694 for the future of the representation of the Kingdom.
4. THE CORTES IN XVIIIth CENTURY AND THE FIRST THIRD IN XIXth. THE POLITICAL MEANING OF THE KINGDOM. After describing the situation of the urban system in Castile in the seventies, analyzing the prorogations of millions and concessions of new votes in Cortes, we study all the meetings which there were in this century, studying the social-political profiles of the members of parliament. We also establish the connections which there were between the traditional Cortes and the liberal Parliament.
5. THE DIPUTATION OF THE KINGDOMS: 1698-1834. We dedicate a large chapter to study thoroughly the Institution which was formed to replace the Cortes: The Diputación, analyzing its political course, its civil service, its functions and the institutional organization which surrounded it (Consejos, King, cities, Cortes) until its disappearance in 1834 before passing to the pseudo-liberal regime of Estatuto Real. |
