Sumario: | Conflict is one of the key elements of industrial relations and strikes are the highlight of the labor dispute to which the academic literature has given greater importance, both for its social significance, probably the strikes have involved more workers than any another form of collective action or social policy during the twentieth century, as its historical continuity, because since the mid-nineteenth century strikes became the dominant form of social protest in the industrial societies. Also for methodological reasons: the availability of statistical data series from the late nineteenth century in some countries.
Despite this, and the fact that Spain has consistently been one of the countries with the highest number of strikes since the transition to democratic rule, the national literature on the subject is scarce and has remained fragmented. Thus, it was necessary to conduct a large study of strikes in Spain during the last decades. Large not only in extent but also in terms of the variety of theoretical approaches considered, the historical period analyzed and the series combination of statistics and measurement units used. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to analyze theoretically supported on the evolution of strike activity in Spain during the democratic period. |
