Sumario: | We are moving in an absurd world, where the developed world spends 5.5% of its
income on military expenses and 0.03% on aid to poor countries; where more money
is spent on arms in two days than what the United Nations spends in 365 days for
peace, health, education and social problems (Zárate, 2008). The current world
requires the attention of public opinion, above all, of young students (León, 2006)
since almost half of the world population is made up of young people between 12 and
24 years of age (World Bank, 2006). However, promoting participation experiences in
which young people can get involved in the public life of their community continues
to be an unusual task.
Due to the above, this project seeks to develop young social leaders; people who
seek, through all possible means, to transform their reality and that of those around
them, achieving the common good for as many people as possible. The client for this
project was the Prepa UDEM Fundadores Unit. This institution has different programs
and actions to develop an exit profile in which it is stated that the student must be
committed to society. However, in the general diagnosis it was observed that the
degree of social involvement by young people is low.
The methodology used for this project was, first, a documentary research on
leadership programs, social leadership and citizen participation. Subsequently, a
general diagnosis was made on the fulfillment of the exit profile to 140 first and last
year high school students to see if there were significant differences between the
two semesters. Then a model and a social leadership program were designed to
finally intervene through the application of the program and analyze and evaluate
the competencies that were sought to be developed in it. From the total sample of
140 students, a sample of 11 students was selected to implement the project in the
first year of the Prepa UDEM Fundadores Unit. Because the implementation was
short-term, the sample should start from the basic characteristics of a social leader,
such as being altruistic, being concerned about social problems, being responsible,
helpful, defending their ideas, being empathetic, proactive and knowing how to work
in equipment. It was also taken into account if they belonged to an association and if
they read the newspaper. |
