Sumario:The purpose of the research was to generate a theoretical approach to the organizational culture from the perspective of the university managers of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences of the University of Carabobo. The object of study was approached from the interpretive paradigm, with a qualitative approach. The ontology was based on the dialogic apprehension of the experiences of being, epistemology followed the experiential-vivencialism empiricism and social constructionism, the methodology was based on phenomenology supported by hermeneutics. Five university managers were intentionally selected whose meanings were captured through the in-depth interview technique. The systematization of the information implied the chromatization of the emerging thematic units in four categories: cultural productions, philosophical ethos, cultural ontology and university management. The contrasting and interpretation of the meanings with the state of the art was carried out. The epistemic construction was based on the analysis of three levels of organizational culture proposed by Schein (1988): perceptible peripheral level, partially apprehensible behavioral level and imperceptible underlying level, whose social construction has been dynamized by the leadership of a social actor during the exercise of managerial functions who introduced the cultural productions that are part of the collection today. Organizational values are an instrumental means with which members articulate their previous learning with the doctrine that prevails in the social group. However, given the impossibility of re-legitimizing institutional democracy, the university management undertakes authoritarian practices to the detriment of the organizational culture, weakening the underlying convictions of the members and producing dissonance of the philosophical ethos; therefore, power must be oriented towards the exercise of social leadership with an integrative approach to face the emerging challenges of reality.
