The quantitative approach is applied through documentaryresearch with secondary data published in proceedings, journals, books and portal ScientificElectronic Library (SciELO). The data analysis occurred through meta-analysis usingdescriptive statistics and Spearman correlation. The results of 34 scientific studies 23 IESreferencing models and practices of waste management published from 2001 to 2012 wereidentified. The Spearman correlation analysis expressed that HEIs with programs inenvironmental education performed better ranking General Index of Courses. It isrecommended that HEIs that have a waste management deployed, share your experiencethrough scientific publications to disseminate their adaptation practices regarding the SGA.Alexandre André FeilVirgílio José StrasburgRoberto Harb NaimeUniversidade Federal de Santa Catarinaarticlehigher education institutionswaste managementenvironmental managementEducation (General)L7-991Special aspects of educationLC8-6691ESPTRevista Gestão Universitária na América Latina , Vol 8, Iss 1, Pp 214-235 (2015)
