| Sumario: | The contemporary society has presented a growing concern with the environmental impact caused by economic and technological development. As a result of this concern and research studies that indicate the possibility of negative impacts as a result of intense use of natural resources. The scientific community, together with the society, developed the concept of sustainable development, as well as some methodologies to assess the level of local sustainability, national or the planet. From this context, the purpose of this article, it is by means of bibliographic research, contribute to the reflection on what are sustainability and the methodology Sustainability Barometer (BS). Complementary to the bibliographical study presents an application of the methodology BS to the municipality of Taubaté, by collecting, tabulating and quantitative and qualitative analysis of various sources. The analysis of data collected according to the methodology BS, indicates that the municipality of Taubaté is a level of almost sustainable. |
