It is considered that the causes of students’ own achievement and failure are important how students see them in determining and eliminating current strong states or deficiencies. The study is occurred by using the simple accessible sampling method in the provinence of Sakarya in 2015-2016 school year. The study group contains 36 students in 6th grade, 19 students in 7th grade and 8th grade including 72 students totally in the study that is designed case study, qualitative research methods. To examine the causes of students’ achievement or failure in mathematics lesson, a form that has been developed by researchers and has 4 open-ended questions is used. Also, obtained data was analyzed with the descriptive analysis in the process of data analysis. According to the finding of the study; while 6th and 7th grade students have considered that in general the causes of achievement and failure are originated from themselves, from their teachers, from lesson or from their friends, 8th grade students have considered that these causes are originated from themselves or from lesson. In the statements of students’ regarding causes of achievement or failure in mathematics lesson, it is seen that there isn’t any expression about support of family or social environment.
