Sumario:The article represents an attempt to involve the reader into the world of the characters from the fi ve novels of the well-known poet Dumitru Matcovschi. His fi rst three epic works are presented through references to Eliza Botezatu and Andrei Hropotinschi who have previously analyzed them. Ion Ciocanu refers to Focul din vatra (The fi replace) and Piesa pentru un teatru provincial (The play for a provincial theatre). The critic reveals the psychological and intellectual peculiarities of Lisandru Povara, Aristid, Grigore Ciobanu, Dan and Pan, and other characters that, through their common and impressive relations, incite the reader and breathe in noble feelings and cultivate citizen attitudes worthy of the contemporary man.
