The function of foreign advisers as well as the process of negotiations with the International Monetary Fund have been analyzed. The course of the conflict between Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki and the Minister of Finance Leszek Balcerowicz was also reconstructed, as well as the role played by the Minister of Labor Jacek Kuroń in settling this dispute.
