Sumario: | The aim of the study is to identify conservatory of music and performing arts high school strudents’ opinions on general culture courses. In this context, the opinions of students related to importance they give to their general culture courses, reason of the importance, recommendations on the processing of the course, importance ranking of courses were investigated. In this research, qualitative research method is used. The research group was comprised of 27 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade conservatory music and performing arts high school students in a state university. The data were collected by a semi-structured interview form consisting of open-ended questions and developed by researcher through face to face interviews. Questions were asked in relation to being common courses such as Language and Expression, Turkish Language and Literature, Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge, History/ Revolution History of Turkish Republic and Foreign Language. The data were analysed by using content analysis technique. It was determined that high school students thought that the general culture courses are important, made suggestions such as visual presentation, teaching processing based discussion and interpretation, active participation of students. The importance ranking of courses was identified as, Foreign Language, History/ Revolution History of Turkish Republic, Turkish Language and Literature, Language and Expression, Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge. Based on that current research results, it is belived that the importance given to general education courses in conservatories will increase with the use of visual materials and establishing links between courses. |
