Sumario: | Objective in this article, analyze the experienced situations and prospects envisioned by family farmers without successors regarding the issue of support in old age and fate of assets. Interviews were conducted with farmers without successors in the counties of Dona Francisca, Pinhal Grande and Esperança do Sul, located, respectively, in the Central and Northwest regions of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The results show that the main situations and referrals are: a) be supported by children and reside in the city with them; b) would like to be supported by their children, but they live in uncertainty about the future condition; c) would like to be supported by the children, but the trend is to be maintained by third parties; d) would like to be supported by their children, waiting for the return of the descendants of the property. With respect to equity (land), farmers consider the possibility of selling the property or leave the assets to their children. These different possibilities built by farmers, both support in old age as in the routing heritage, reinforces not only the disintegration of a pattern that prevailed in earlier generations, but reveals the absence of a new unique pattern of succession, making the issue of aging an important social aggravating between the family farming. |
