Sumario:This research which was carried out on the purpose of “Determining the Educational Needs Related to Footwear Design and Manufacturing Undergraduate Program” in Turkey was on screening model. A scale including totally 50 items were developed depending upon the required manufacturing and marketing qualifications of a Footwear design and manufacturing graduates. The study population of the study consisted of totally 687 people including the academicians carrying on their duties on marketing, design, and Footwear department of various universities, Footwear manufacturers, Footwear designers, and Footwear teachers. The scale was performed in two different ways as online and face-to-face between November 2011 and April 2012. Online application was performed to academicians, Footwear trainers and designers. Face-to-face application was performed upon firm proprietors manufacturing 200 pairs of Footwears in a day in Istanbul, Izmir, Konya, Gaziantep, Adana, Hatay, Manisa and Bursa provinces. As result of the research, it was revealed that undergraduate programs should cover the competences concerning the Footwear design, technology, manufacturing and marketing related to Footwear design and manufacturing in Turkey. The participants presented their opinions related to whole competencies as “very important” and “substantially important”. It includes design competencies, Footwear and fashion knowledge, visual and linear presentation, skill of expression and original designing skills. The participants expect the graduates of the department to have a comprehensive knowledge of all stages in Footwear manufacturing process. Marketing competencies include the skills such as creating their own brands using the knowledge related to the field efficiently, packaging, and marketing of the product. Some
