Fairly common in English public opinion point of view, according to which the war with France is a struggle against irreligion, was reflected in the cartoon, but was not dominant. Dissenters aroused the hostility of cartoonists in the 1790s because of their support for the ideas of the French revolution. Anticatholic sentiments, traditional for England, are presented in the cartoon to the fullest. At the same time, mitigation of anticatholicism in the 1820s, also reflected in the cartoon.
