Sumario:Over the 90 years, theories of democratic transition, based in building democratic institutions, are beginning to be refuted, and emerge the need to study the forms of relationship between the state, political institutions and society. For the construction of such an approach, incorporating the concept of public sphere is necessary, because it presents itself as a discursive space that incorporates the different actors that have arisen during the process of democratization. So how it is possible to identify the existence of different social groups in the public sphere, this division is marked not only socially but also spatially, between developed and underdeveloped societies. The discussion about the public sphere is revealed in this way, part of a broader discussion. Aiming to advance this discussion, this paper seeks to examine the possible interplay between the notions of public sphere and development. For the analysis proposed here, we started the second chapter to a brief discussion of development theories. In the third chapter, we present the transformations that come through the public sphere and the implications of this process. We then analyzed the possible interrelations between the concepts of public sphere and development from two perspectives, the asymmetries and theautonomy. With respect to the debate over asymmetries, it was observed that the asymmetries presents in the public sphere are reflections of a broader process, the methods of people's integration in industrial civilization. Moreover, the debate about autonomy, the public sphere becomes more powerful, since it now recognizes that the media used to influence the public are one of the communicative flows from the public sphere.
