Sumario: | Science, information obtained using the scientific method, and consists of scientific method (Gürdal, Şahin and Çağlar, 2001). In contrast to the closed-ended experiment in open-ended experiment students will only be used tools and are given the purpose of the testing (Ayas ve diğerleri, 2008). The research was undertaken with the 3rd graders of the department of the science education of a university in Istanbul. It was aimed to understand how capable are these 3rd graders to create open-ended experiments by using the available materials. A series of theoretical knowledge and examples about the scientific process skills and the types of experiments had been presented to the science teacher candidates for 2 weeks. Following this stage, the science teacher candidates were expected to plan their problems, hypotheses, variables and experiments by using the written materials which were submitted by the researchers. The problems, hypotheses, variables and experiments, which were created by the science teacher candidates, were assessed qualitatively and these assessments were compared with the frequencies. It was seen that the teacher candidates were not capable enough to create sound open-ended experiments. Thus, it was tried to figure out how capable are the science teacher candidates to create the scientific problems, hypotheses, variables and open-ended experiments and to use their scientific process skills. |
