This essay shows that both the <inline-formula><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><semantics><mi mathvariant="sans-serif">Λ</mi></semantics></math></inline-formula> and the CDM arise as integration constants in a careful derivation of Einstein’s equations from first principles in a Lorentz gauge theory.
