Sumario:The relevance of the topic lies in the fact that in the past few years, prerequisites have been formed for qualitatively new approaches to understanding the problems of the further development of the legal foundations of Russian federalism. Crises and sanctions are temporary factors and cannot really globally affect the deep foundations of Russian statehood. The purpose of the article is to identify problematic aspects in the development of Russian federalism. As a result, it was shown that federalism in the Russian Federation has a constitutional and legal character and is the only acceptable device for Russia in view of its multinational composition. As a methodological basis, general logical research methods were used. The empirical basis of the study is a reliance on the articles of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, which has the highest legal force in Russia. The questions and conclusions of the article suggest an expansion of understanding of the problems associated with the strategy of optimizing federal relations in modern Russia.
