Sumario:This paper analyzes the regional development perspective contained in Brazilian Foreign Policy strategy in the government of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for the integration in South America. First it is presented the theme of regional development in processes of integration and its challenges, then it is characterized the previous experiences of this process of regional integration in Latin America, then point to the innovations of the Lula government, ending with the analysis of the possibilities and limitations of this strategy, in conclusion. It is used predominantly qualitative approach, having as main year time frame from 2003 to 2010, based on primary data official documents of the Brazilian Government, Mercosur and Unasur, and unstructured interviews, as well as a secondary base consists of referrals in the study area. The main finding of the study is that regional integration strategy of the Lula government strongly innovative content in development regional of South American integration process, trying to be a paymaster and a process leading toward an integration with fewer impacts of inequalities development in the region.
