Sumario:ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Every new curriculum is designed and further put into practice to make a change in current and/or an ongoing condition. The purpose of this study is to determine the educational needs based on verbal communication disorders in the country of IRAN and to develop a curriculum at PHD level. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 65 subjects attended including teachers, students, graduated speech therapists and audiologists and also ENT surgeons for curriculum development and need assessment. Data were gathered through 16 questions in a questionnaire using Delphi technique to get the comments. Statistical analysis was performed by Chi-square & Kappa tests. FINDINGS: The results indicate that the current educational programs at the doctorate level for the fields of speech pathology & audiology do not match the needs of society in the field of verbal communication and related disorders, also a revision on the current programs is not responsive so it is a need to plan and establish a new majoring in the field of speech language – hearing sciences at the doctorate level. CONCLUSION: The current educational programs at the doctorate level are not completely responsive to the needs of the society for communication disorders and specific attention must be paid to prevent hearing-speech-language disorders as well as managing communication disorders in childhood and geriatrics while planning a curriculum for the new majoring.
