EVALUATION OF VOICE FUNCTIONS WITH AERODYNAMIC PARAMETERS IN PEOPLE WHO RECEIVE SINGING TRAINING
Objectives The aim of this study is to present new data for this field by objectively evaluating the aerodynamic properties of voice functions in people who receive systematic (classical) voice training. Methods The study was conducted in the 2014-2015 academic year with 20 students with perfect att...

Methods The study was conducted in the 2014-2015 academic year with 20 students with perfect attendance from the department of vocal arts who did not have any voice problems, and attending the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year classes at the Department of Opera in the Faculty of Performing Arts of Selçuk University Dilek Sabancı State Conservatory. The students participate in singing courses for an hour per week and accompanied singing course for two hours per week. Their voice analyses were made at the sound laboratory in Otorhinolaryngology Department of the School of Medicine of Selçuk University by otorhinolaryngology and singing specialists. Measurements concerning aerodynamic parameters related with the airflow quantity and sound pressure level employed in the evaluation of voice functions were carried out with Kay Elemetrics Phonatory Aerodynamic System 6600 (PAS-KayPENTAX). Among the PAS protocols measured were maximum sustained phonation, comfortable sustained phonation, variation in sound pressure level and vital capacity values. Results and Conclusions In the measurements of students who receive voice training before and after the academic year, significant differences were found in terms of Peak Expiratory Airflow, Mean Expiratory Airflow, and Expiratory Volume parameters of Maximum Sustained Phonation (MSP) protocol, and Peak Expiratory Airflow and Expiratory Volume parameters of Comfortable Sustained Phonation (CSP) protocol. No significant difference was found in the other parameters. According to the results of this study, it can be suggested that Peak Expiratory Airflow, Mean Expiratory Airflow and Expiratory Volume parameters are reliable estimates in the evaluation of professional voices.Nalan YİĞİTKayhan ÖZTÜRKF.Sibel JAGODASatı DOĞANYİĞİTFırat Universityarticlevoice (singing) educationvoice functionsvoice evaluationaerodynamic parameterspasSocial SciencesHSocial sciences (General)H1-99DEENFRTRJournal of Academic Social Science Studies , Vol 11, Iss 68, Pp 159-172 (2019) |
