It was not ink any more that was dripping out of his pen, but the sea itself. The sea started to overwhelm his novels, essays, and short stories. The main theme of his short stories was based on the seamen’s ambitions, feelings, daily life activities, romances, and naiveness, all of which were expressed through a poetic style. The same style was employed in his short-story books. This books was compiled from the short stories published in four of his previous short-storybooks and also his stories which ad never been published before. In the present study, we performed psychology tests on the characters presented in the short stories given in the book. By evaluating all the characters through a psychoanalytic perspective of defense mechanisms, we tried to have an insight into the psychological state of the writer – who had undergone severe turning points throughout his life. Further, to create a psychoanalytic base for the analysis, the study delved into all the aspects of psychoanalysis by examining the issues including Psychoanalytic Literary Criticism. In the psychoanalytic literary criticism of a given work, the writer’s biography, diaries, and his mysteries are of prime importance. For the current study, these details were presented under the subheadings, the Life Story of the Fisherman of Halicarnassus and the Fisherman of Halicarnassus: A Storyteller. The psychoanalytic evaluations made for each character were presented in the section related to book analysis, and also an overall evaluation was provided in the conclusion section.Ferhat ÇETİNKAYAFırat Universityarticlestoryhalikarnas balıkçısıpsychoanalysisdefense mechanismsliterature and psychologySocial SciencesHSocial sciences (General)H1-99DEENFRTRJournal of Academic Social Science Studies , Vol 8, Iss 41, Pp 505-527 (2019) |
