Sumario:This paper proposes a rapprochement between the sociology of development and urban sociology. The towns are the core of development as they are in them, which appear the characteristic culture of the development of the modern capitalist state - "urban culture". Therefore, there is the possibility of rapprochement. For that we conducted a literature search, from which a dialogue was established between Jacques Lambert¿s the theory of developmentalism and theoretical contribution of some authors of urban sociology. The aim was both to understand how the concepts of urban sociology appear in the theory of Lambert and compare the discussion raised by this author about the obstacles of Brazilian development, in the 50s, which is dualism rural / urban, with recent studies of authors who dedicated to the urban theme in urban Brazil, as for example Luiz Cezar Q. Ribeiro, who also points to existence of a dualism in Brazilian society.
