There was a development in the western axis in the political, social, cultural and artistic fields. There have been many positive developments in women's education and social equality. With the inclination of elite and highly educated women to art, women started to take part in artistic and cultural activities. During this period, Mihri Mushfik (1886-1954) was one of the first artists in the art of painting with pioneering steps. Mihri Hanım played an important role in the development of contemporary Turkish painting by coping with the difficulties of being a woman in the turbulent times of the Ottoman Empire. In this study, it is aimed to examine the life and works of Mihri Mushfik, one of the leading women of contemporary Turkish painting, based on the political, social and cultural events of the period she lived. The study covers the years between 1886 and 1954.This study is based on the effects of the events that took place in the Ottoman period and the years after the proclamation of the Turkish Republic on the artist's art. In the study, the works of the artist, which were formed with the effects of Western art, were discussed. In this study, it is tried to determine the place of women in contemporary Turkish painting in the example of Mihri Mushfik. The fact that the name of the artist, who struggles with the problems caused by gender inequality, is included in few sources reveals the importance of the work. This research was created by qualitative research method. The descriptive-scanning method was used in the research. In this study, information about the artistic production process and activity of the artist was obtained by the method of literature review.
