Sumario:Reduplication has an aesthetic value in literary texts. It is used to make a text semantically emphasized and more significance to some word or to some parts of words. This paper is intended to investigate the use of reduplication used in Hawthorne's novel “The Scarlet Letter”. It also highlights the semantic purposes of using reduplication in Hawthorne's novel . This paper aims at showing the use of reduplication in " The Scarlet Letter ". Semantically, it focuses on meaning of reduplication in the text above. It is hypothesized that: 1-Reduplication is widely used in '' The Scarlet Letter" 2-Semantically, it is expected that each reduplicative word has its own meaning in the same novel. The procedures of the present study are: 1-Presenting a theoretical idea about reduplication, their different types and levels. 2-Showing the semantic properties of reduplication and choosing texts from Hawthorne's novel “The Scarlet Letter”. After analyzing the data selected, the findings of the investigation validate all the hypotheses above.
