The political conflicts that became evident in the period of Ali turned into religious-sectarian divisions within a short time. These divisions continue inevitably by increasing their violence in the period when Turkish communities adopted Islam. The Turkish communities, which predominantly adopted the understanding of Sunnism and partly of Alevism, have been separated and confronted for many different reasons in the historical process. Sociological and cultural factors have been the determinants of this separation as well as political and historical factors. This conflict and tension that continued for centuries continued until the foundation of the Republic. As a result of the adoption of secular understanding in the political and legal spheres with the Republican administration, the separation and tension which has been going on for a long time has decreased. However, the prejudices that arise in the social and cultural spheres in the process continue to some extent even today. This research is about the events that started in 1966 in Muğla-Ortaca due to a land dispute and after a while they wanted to be transformed into Alevi-Sunni conflict. Particularly as a result of misleading information given by the press of the period for various reasons, the perception of a massacre attempt or massacre against Alevis occurred in Ortaca and this situation caused tension across the country. Again, with the effect of these misleading publications, there has been a perception that today, especially in social media, the real dimensions of events are a massacre. However, this tension stemmed mainly from the land dispute and the efforts of the parties to turn the events into a sectarian conflict did not succeed.Doğan DUMANFırat Universityarticleislamsunnismalevism1966 ortaca eventsSocial SciencesHSocial sciences (General)H1-99DEENFRTRJournal of Academic Social Science Studies , Vol 12, Iss 75, Pp 231-257 (2020) |
