Quantitative investigation reveals distinct phases in Drosophila sleep
Xu, et al. developed a quantitative method to characterize the sleep of flies by continuously tracking the fly activity. They find that the sleep state is distinguished from a short-rested state with an exponential distribution of sleep duration, which suggests a memoryless wakeup probability.
