A Culture which is the basic requirement of being a nation is the only force that keeps a society alive. Our national music is one of the cornerstones of our national culture. The study is for revealing Atatürk era conception of music education and determining the closeness to this conception of today’s pre-service teachers. The study covers pre-service classroom teachers studying at Faculty of Education at Dumlupınar University during the 2015-16 academic year. According to the research results; pre-service teachers perceive the music as local and national culture just like in the general educational philosophy of the Republican era and think that our music should be fed from our culture so as to be universal and also they see the music as a medium of culture transfer that describes the society with all its elements.
