Sumario:Most of the studies about clusters highlights the geographical proximity as the main factor for theestablishment of cooperative links between firms. More recently, scholars have begun to complainthat other forms of proximity should also be considered, such as cognitive, organizational, socialand institutional proximity. In this context, this study refers to the qualitative analysis of two garmentclusters in Sergipe, whose instrument of data collection was elected a semistructured interview. Inthe cluster of Itabaianinha, overall, the results suggest increased social proximity from successfuljoint actions in the recent past, particularly among agents from different product lines or betweenindividuals with some degree of kinship. Moreover, despite the physical proximity, economic agentsLPA Tobias Barreto showed resistance to cooperate and share information. The results show thatinstitutional initiatives have been insufficient in order to engage them in mutual cooperation schemeand that in contexts based excessively on price competitiveness, economic agents voluntarily abstainpartnerships with peers of local agglomeration, implying that physical proximity coupled with thesocial and institutional distance would be obstacles to establishing win-win relationships.
