Sumario:Doménikos Theotokopoulos lived and worked during the heart of the 16th century's religious zeal. The creation of a series of iconographies, which were in accordance with the Counter-reformation precepts or, on the contrary, deviated from them, marked the success of his work among his clientele from Toledo and from Madrid. Even nowadays we continue demystifying the Cretan painter as a mystic, and having to defend him being a philosopher-painter or intellectual humanist. There are multiple unknowns around his figure, specially about his interets in religiuos matters or if his works responded only to market interest.
