Sumario: | The subject of this study is multiculturalism and multicultural education which have been discussed in different ways in Turkey and in the world in recent years. In order to better understand these issues, a literature review was aimed to analyze both the conceptual level and application types. Since multiculturalism and multicultural education are perceived and applied differently not only between different countries in the world, but also within the same country. Therefore, these issues, which have so many different perceptions and practices, are seen as a need to put forward various aspects in the light of previous studies. Nonetheless by accepting that everyone is not in consensus on multiculturalism and multicultural education, the similarities and differences of these ideas in some respects have been studied. In this respect, firstly, the conceptual analysis of culture and multiculturalism was tried to be analyzed. Then, researches on multiculturalism and multicultural education in Turkey and the world were compared among themselves and tried to reach a general result even though it was difficult. As a result, different views have emerged about how multiculturalism will affect states and identities in Europe and the various countries of the world. While some thinkers consider the multicultural policies and the results of their practice positively, some thinkers consider them negative. Even though, in Turkey the concept of multiculturalism or cultural pluralism which has been discussed and researched in various fields based on academic level, has no consensus. Due to Turkey's security concerns and divisions, the people, who are familiar with these problems, in general prefer to avoid these issues. |
