Sumario: | It is known that the works belong to all eras in a repertoire in piano education are performed by the students especially at the institutions providing professional music education. Each work in a repertoire consists of specific features regarding to the properties of the periods, and the some differences in style, genre, techniques and interpretation are existed. These differences should be known in order to improve the students’ technical and musical skills in piano education. In this study, the characteristic features of Baroque Era were emphasized, and intermediate piano sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti who was a famous composer in Baroque Era, were examined. Accordingly, the aim of this research was to investigate the behaviours gained by D. Scarlatti’s intermediate level sonatas for the students and to reveal the usability of these works in piano education. In this descriptive survey model research, document analysis, a qualitative research method, were used. The levels of intermadiate sonatas were classified in three as early-intermediate, intermediate, and late-intermediate. Selected sonatas in these levels were analysed according to the technical and musical properties. The results indicated that Scarlatti’s intermediate level sonatas gained the behaviours consisted of the technical and musical properties concerning the Baroque Era. Morever, it was observed that Scarlatti’s works contained technical innovations according to the properties of the period. |
