Sumario: | The Republic, which was established on the wreckage of Balkan Wars, First World War and the Independence War, faced lots of great difficulties in the political, social and economic areas as well as in the health area. Young Republic’s modernization efforts towards overcoming the challenges in these fields, naturally, have shown itself in the field of the health. Of course, the first major development in the field of the health was the establishment of a ministry in 1920, with the name of the Ministry of Health. With the establishment of the Ministry, health care services were carried out better and the foundations of the health policies were laid, especially during the period of Refik Saydam. In the single-party era, the health policy of the Republic was; expanding health care organization by opening hospitals, dispensaries, the diagnostic and treatment centres in every part of the country, increasing the number of other health personnel especially of the doctors, fighting against contagious diseases, making laws of health and social care and bringing health services to villages As a result of the early health policies of the Republican Turkey, a large number of health care providers were opened in Diyarbakır and as well as physicians and veterinarians, a large number of health officers worked in these institutions. In the early years of the Republic, in Diyarbakır as well as all over the country, infectious diseases such as malaria, typhoid fever and leishmaniasis and especially diphtheria, stained huma and smallpox were seen. Health institutions and Community Centre in Diyarbakır were making significant efforts in combating infectious diseases. In this study, the health situation of Diyarbakır between the years of 1923-1926, which is known as the single-party era will be studied. With this study, the health policy of the early Republic and its projection in Diyarbakır will be put forward a little bit. |
