Sumario:Managers of newly established Turkish Republic has became ready to reconstruct every corner of homeland which has been dilapidated. One of the first works they do in this area has been to reorganizing the transportation sector. In the last years of Ottoman Empire, there was no proper transportation network because of economic and political reasons and effects of the destruction of the war years. Republican staff have adopted a construction policy that contains costructing railways throughuot the country and overland routes will be integrated to these railways. With construction activities of overland routes and railways, interior regions of country and port cities have been connected. Republican staff also have made great efforts for integrating towns, villages and cities to each other. In these construction activities, they gave great importance to overland route bridges. Since 1923, it has been started to built great overland route bridges. One of these great overland route bridge is Ismet Pasha (Komurhan) Bridge whose construction was completed in 1932 and put into transportation service. Bridge is located on border province of Elazig and Malatya. This bridge which has been commemorated as an important prosperity creation in Ataturk period, was seventh in the world and first in Asia in consideration of length of arch aperture in the period it was built. In this paper about Ismet Pasha (Komurhan) Bridge, information about aim of constructing bridge, construction decision of this bridge, bridge’s properties and opening ceremony of bridge will be given. This paper has been prepared by using foremost archive sources, periodicals of that years and primary sources.
