In the works, we observe the subversion of the landscape that marks the narratives about the Brazilian Amazon. Hatoum’s gaze displaces itself from the scenarios of a “frightening forest” and the reiterated motto of the rubber cycles to relocate in the landscape of the city - with its movements and problems - using migrant subjects as its guiding thread. In both works, the author promotes the opening of the Amazonian novel to topics that involve disputes, memory, family dramas and are prevalently set in urban narratives.
