In particular, these partners are important for producing different kinds of innovation whether it is radical or incremental. Although previous studies have investigated the relationship between partner types and innovation performance, there is inconsistency in the literature explaining the impact of different partner types on innovation performance. Hence, this study reviews the literature discussing the characteristics of science-based and market-based partners and their effects on innovation performance. In doing so, this paper suggests two propositions that need to be further investigated by future studies.
