Sumario:The importance of idioms and proverbs in terms of history, origin and development of a language is countless. Idioms and proverbs, which house beliefs, customs and traditions and in general all the socio-cultural elements of a society, play an important role on determining the proximity or the distance between the Turkish dialects. Turkish communities have given great importance to the family institution which is considered as the core of the community. Hence, a word used by the Turks for describing a kinship relationship allows us to understand whether the mentioned person is a male or female, young or elder, married or single; whether the relationship comes from mother, father or husband/wife. Family and relative names, which hold so many functions, may also be considered as a measure for the determination of proximity and distance of the languages from each other, as well as idioms and proverbs do. Idioms and proverbs, as well as family and kinship names play an important role in the determination of the socio-cultural characteristics of societies. Therefore, in this study we have deemed of interest to investigate the family and kinship names, included in idioms and proverbs of Gagauzians. Gagauzians and Gagauz Turkish have become a point of interest due to the fact that they are affected too much from either Slavic culture or Indo-European languages characteristics and the fact that they hold Oguz language group characteristics and cultural elements. In this study, we have firstly identified the family and kinship names included in the idioms and proverbs of the book " Gagauzlar" of Atanas Manov an than we been focused on what such family and kinship names state on socio-cultural aspects.
