Sumario:This paper aims to discuss, in the light of the Brazilian economy experience, the phenomenon of currency war in recent years. The paper’s hypothesis is that the major trading partners of the country artificially devalued their currencies to attenuate the eRects of the subprime crisis. For this purpose, the method of Vec- tor Autoregression (VAR) was used to test the hypothesis. The results showed that this policy was used by the United States and also by the European Union in recent years. Moreover, the theory of international relations points the way out of this particular question, namely, that countries should cooperate to have advantages in international trade, otherwise trade relations will be significantly reduced.
