Sumario:This article analyzes the potential endogenous development of Júlio de Castilhos, located in the State of Rio Grande do Sul Central Region with less than fifty thousand inhabitants and economic base in the primary sector. The research problem investigated is: what are the endogenous development potential of Júlio de Castilhos - RS? Methodologically, method was used as a deductive approach, we used to collect primary data, semi-structured interviews with open and closed questions applied to twelve social actors, complemented with the analysis of productive specialization, through the calculation of Locational Quotients (LQs) for rural and urban activities. We conclude that, in this particular, diverse and heterogeneous structure, social actors must position themselves strategically linked to agricultural tradable that generate derived demand activities, jointly leveraging local and regional key opportunities to strengthen specific sectors that are latent endogenous potential forces, capable of generating autonomous development of Júlio de Castilhos .
