Sumario:The book A different Brazil: essay on the phenomena of acculturation in Paraná, written by the literary critic Wilson Martins, is considered a milestone in the area of Studies of Paraná. Simultaneously heir and opposed to Paranism (Paraná’s regionalism), the legacy of the book is central to the identity of the state as white, progressive, and European. In spite of the book’s prominent place in the history of the state, Martins contested its recognition, refusing to acknowledge its wide reception and its continuity with Paranism. Analysing Martins’ trajectory and the Brazilian intellectual space of his time, we investigate the social conditions to the author’s ‘blindness’ regarding the importance of his work.
