Sumario:This article contextualizes and analyzes the results of the 1979 Balearic Island Councils elections. Indirectly, the members of the Inter-insular General Council, the Balearic preautonomous body, were also elected, so these elections are called preautonomous. These elections were distinguished by the electorate passivity and the nationalist vote advance, elements that cannot be detached from the change of the electoral arena or from the coincidence with the first local election of the current democratic period. Likewise, important divergences between islands are detected that should be keep in mind.
