| Summary: | Objectives:With this study, it is aimed to examine child deaths reported between 2005 and 2019 in the Turkish media, to determine in detail the quantitative and qualitative situation, and thus to conduct a discussion on the solution and reduction of suspicious cases of child deaths.Materials and Methods:Between 2005 and 2019, four different news sites, BirGün, Cumhuriyet, Hürriyet and SoL Haber, were searched with keywords, and 2,645 child deaths were reported.Results:It was observed that 30.0% of the dead or missing children were between the ages of 12 and 18 years, 49.3 % were male, the vast majority (24.2%) died due to child neglect and the highest rate of child deaths occurred in 2018.Conclusion:Adult family members and state institutions should fulfill their responsibilities in taking all kinds of safety measures against dangerous situations for the child and they should be made aware of providing a safe environment. |
