Sumario:This paper reviews the development of Islamic economics at various levels. It examines the discursive accumulation of knowledge on Islamic economic topics and explores their contents and future direction It evaluates the achievements of research and banking institutions. It also examines the extent to which Islamic economics has gained acceptance in the minds of ordinary Muslims and in the practices of Muslim states. This review is intended to provide a roadmap for the future development of the discipline. In the spirit of constructive critical thinking it also provides a useful critique of the many failures of the institutions and limits of the discourse.
