Mitochondrial Lon protease is a gatekeeper for proteins newly imported into the matrix
Yuichi Matsushima et al. revealed that Human ATP-dependent Lon protease (LONP1), a mitochondrial protease with unfolding activity, serves as a gatekeeper for several mitochondrial matrix entering proteins: supporting the folding of required proteins and degrading the aberrant ones.
