Sumario:As the countries grow up financially, their energy needs also increase fast. Therefore the countries are searching for both the ways to benefit from usual energy sources and how they can use the renewable energy extensively. Geothermal energy as an alternative source to supply increasing energy needs of countries which have suitable geological structure and the rich geothermal sources are investigated and developing rapidly. According to the datas of 2015, greenhouse heating is determined as 2.6% when analyzing the distribution of installed capacity of direct use of geothermal energy applications in the world (MWt). It has been known that total geothermal wells in Turkey are 1559 pieces and 961 pieces of these are in the Aegean region. In addition, the total greenhouse area of our country is approximately 2214 decares and estimated energy is approximately 390 MWt; the total greenhouse area of Simav is 310 decares and estimated energy is approximately 61 MWt. The greenhouse cultivation has an economically important role in the agricultural sector of our country. Simav district of Kutahya is one of the most important region in Turkey in terms of greenhouse heating with geothermal energy. In this study, it was emphasized that the importance of geothermal energy and greenhouse cultivation in the World and Turkey. Morover, the use of geothermal energy in greenhouses of Simav region and the economic and social effects of these greenhouses on the local economy have been investigated. The results show that geothermal energy in Simav is used to heat 25.74 ha total greenhouse area and averagely yield was found between 1.2 and 3 tons per hectare with production of twice a year. The use of geothermal energy source for greenhouse heating provides economic and enviromental benefits in the agricultural sector. Hence, the implementation of modern greenhouse treatments has become a necessity.
