A dynamic and purposive relationship between the faculty members and students through methods which are consistent with the students’ needs is necessary. The present study was undertaken to determine consulting needs of students at rehabilitation faculty of Hamadan University of Medical Sciences in 2016. METHODS: In this descriptive-analytic study performed following a cross-sectional approach, a total of 144 students at the rehabilitation faculty participated. The used instrument in this research was two questionnaires on demographic information and consulting preferences from the students’ point of view. Validity of the questionnaires was confirmed through content validity test, and reliability of those were confirmed by calculating Cronbach’s alpha. Obtained data was analyzed using SPSS 23 software at a significance level of 0.05 FINDINGS: The students evaluated job requirements (average = 2.65±0.66) and emotional-mental needs (average= 2.65±0.36) as the most wanted consulting needs, while the least wanted consulting needs were those in the scope of students’ “family and marriage” (2.36±0.66). On average, the students were 20.53±1.42 year old. 91.5% of the students were from Hamedan Province. 94.8% of the participants were single and 89.6% of them lived in dormitories. All of the respondents were unemployed, with the average number of passed units being 53.91±33.03 at an average GPA of 16.60±0.98. Consulting needs of the students were found to be different in different disciplines in terms of some aspects of educational needs (reduced exam anxiety) (p=0.018) and family and marriage needs (post-marriage spouse treatment and proper behavior during engagement period) (p=0.015). CONCLUSION: From students’ point of view, the most wanted consulting needs were those in the scopes of job requirements and emotional needs. Accordingly, universities are recommended to pay adequate deals of attention to this issue when designing student consulting plans, so as to provide a proper basis on which students can achieve success.Sarisa FeyzipoorZahra MortazaviLeily TapakMahnoosh ShahbaziSaeedeh Saadat MortazaviBabol University of Medical Sciencesarticleneedconsultingguidingstudentrehabilitation facultyMedicineREducationLFAآموزش پزشکی, Vol 6, Iss 1, Pp 47-53 (2018)
