Sumario:This paper analyses the relationship between environmental certification and the internationalizationof timber enterprises. The research took place in two steps. Initially, using data from FAO and MDIC,the revealed comparative advantage was calculated. This index shows that Brazil, even having hugeamounts of natural resources, does not have comparative advantages. Then, using data from theBrazilian Federal Revenue and from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), it was possible to verifythat the certified enterprises export more, on average, than non-certified enterprises. Moreover, certified enterprises export to more countries than non-certified enterprises. Such results showthat an environment certification is an important thing not only to the environment but also to theenterprises that care about them.
