The work presents the evolution of socio-environmentalism discussion in Brazil, from its sprouting to present day. A critical analysis is offered at different speeches involving the problem, highlighting a critique to the capitalist model of development leading to a process of both environment and human being degradation. Traditional and indigenous populations with their own ways of life and their ethnic knowledge derived from specific relations involving environment and production are not being respected.
